Seasonal thoughts

Arboreal Owl

"We have lived enough for others; let us at least live out the small remnant of life for ourselves; let us now call in our thoughts and intentions to ourselves, and to our own ease and repose. 'Tis no light thing to make a sure retreat; it will be enough for us to do without mixing other enterprises. Since God gives us leisure to order our removal, let us make ready, truss our baggage, take leave betimes of the company, and disentangle ourselves from those violent importunities that engage us elsewhere and separate us from ourselves."

I've always liked owls and, of course, drawing owls is an pleasurable thing for me to do. This is good because I'm sketching characters and a making a dummy for a new picture book for Schwartz & Wade about an adventurous owl. "Owl Sees Owl" is written by Laura Godwin and will be published in 2016.

City of Owls

What's the buzz?

Addlebrained Owl

Demagogue in the guise of a responsible member of society

Parent and child endure the daily spectacle

Whoo are you looking at?

Intricate buildings made woven of grass

trees, leaves and cool shade

Owl Waiting

The sun is slowly climbing down from the abrasive yellow sky
The evening clouds find each other and get reacquainted
The tear-stained ocean carelessly sloshes against obsidian boulders
…and Owl waits.
Soon the moon will rise and her day will begin.

What are we looking at today?

Hey, what's going on? Today?
Shhhh! Mrs Owl is getting ready to create something! Did you hear that Mrs Owl? We've been pretty patient…
