A Good Dog

08-31-14
mixed media (watercolor, ink, crayon, collage, paint)
After being chased all day the moon was going home now. If the dog just waited a little bit longer, she would come to the door and not be able to resist his happy smile, moist eyes and wagging tail thumping on the stoop. Maybe she would give him a piece of cheese!

Wake Up Moon Man!

A castle at the end of the world. All is still. But there is a problem…

The Man in The Moon is fast asleep…

The idle sailors wait for the moon to light their way

The castle is locked for the night and the keys are inside!
It could be a long night.

A Nightingale

10 Août 2012

"A poet is a nightingale who sits in darkness and sings to cheer its own solitude with sweet sounds; his auditors are as men entranced by the melody of an unseen musician, who feel that they are moved and softened, yet know not whence or why.”

Percy Bysshe Shelley
("In Defense of Poetry")

Bear Adrift

"Bear Adrift under the Moon"
collage, mixed media
detail

I've been exploring (or returning to) this idea of the bear adrift on the sea. In this case, it's on calm waters under a soothing full moon. Where are you headed Mr. Bear? Do you need a paddle or a sail? Maybe some birds will come and tell you about the things that you can't see beyond the horizon. Good things! Bon voyage et bonne chance!

Can't Sleep?

Owl cannot sleep.
She tries many different positions but she is wide awake.

Does she wonder where Tern is? What is he doing? The moon rises and sets.

Tern finally returns and sings a lullaby and soon Owl is peacefully sleeping. When the sun peeks over the horizon Tern warns the the other birds "Shhhhhhhhhh!"

A Starry Night

"The tern, owl, stork, and bear walked (and flapped) all night. The glow of the silver moon caught the dry stalks of the dune grasses and countless unblinking stars observed their slow progress. They were like the Magi following the Star only here, this night, there were too many stars and each animal followed several of their own choosing and never told the others. But by dawn, the stars gave center stage to just one that was steadily on its own journey rising in the East. It was another day."
