Bateau à vapeur

my sketch after a painting by Édouard Manet in Chicago (below)
I like this painting for it's directness and carefree, crude rendering of the water, smoke and boats. Yet there is also a fabulous sense of space, and with the arrangement of the boats, a sense of a brief passage of time.
