A Safe World (despite it all!)

A windy world
… weedy! Prickly! Stickery!
Old crones crossing a chasm. A mutual aid society of two.
C'mon! Careful!
The babies are playfully carried over on a gusty breeze. Gravity and thorns are not a big problem for them. They are like pollen or autumn leaves.
(05-11-15: mixed media)
Yet somehow, despite the willful wind they are never too far away from their earthbound parents.

Owl Waiting

The sun is slowly climbing down from the abrasive yellow sky
The evening clouds find each other and get reacquainted
The tear-stained ocean carelessly sloshes against obsidian boulders
…and Owl waits.
Soon the moon will rise and her day will begin.

The Good Babies

"The Good Babies"
11-02-13
mixed media
Mrs. Owl is so proud of her babies. She has been telling them bedtime stories for hours and they will not get sleepy. They're just getting revved up! They are busy asking questions and exploring the trees. Just like good owl babies.
"Tell us another story about Mr. Tern!"
"Tell us about the birthday cake and the ocean."
"When will Mr. Tern come back?"
"Will he bring us presents?"
Mrs. Owl replied "Of course not! And that is a rude question!"

She pauses, she would actually like a present from Mr. Tern…

Weary Souls

"A Weary Soul"
10-28-12 (finished 11-21-12)
mixed media, collage

Two solitary souls rest their tired feet at the base of a fir tree. They have been walking all day and now realize that they are on an island, surrounded by water …and they don't have a boat. The pillow-like moss softens the depressing realization that they are stranded. However, it's not too cold and all is calm. Sleep calls to the man and his four-legged companion. There is nothing to eat and they are too tired to even care. It will be a long night of sleeping and waiting and perhaps, all the catnaps (the dog's also) will amount to a good night's sleep.  Perhaps in their dreams a solution will present itself.
