Godforsaken

How can any place be "godforsaken?" God is in everything, even this abandoned field and that forbidding chateau in the distance. In the field, mice scurry and horde grain and prepare for winter. The hollow tree is filled with brown leaves and dry rotted wood. Mrs. Owl thinks this tree will be very cozy.  She also thinks that the cook in the forbidding chateau might have some scraps of fish on Fridays and that Tern ought to inquire. Godforsaken? It's an impossibility since God (whatever God is!) is everywhere and is incapable of leaving or forsaking anything. So, get moving. Don't blame your bad mood on God!. Things might just work out.

Crystal Cities (August 2013 update)

I began drawing these types of pictures I call "Crystal Cities" in late 2008.
I have most of them archived on flickr: paintings | sculpture | exhibitions.

They took on a very special life of their own through 2009 and 2010. Then other subjects captured my interest and I lost the original fire the Crystal Cities had for me. But I come back to them eagerly as I see fit. These two are from my sketchbook and were made in the last few weeks. There will be more. I have grand plans for them still.

The beautiful, sinking incandescent city gracefully descended below the sea's undulating surface. It was so improbable but down it went in front of their disbelieving eyes. And now it is just a blurred memory in the three friends' minds: Past, Present & Future as one. Beneath the calm waters, lights glimmer and fade and a bell tolls as the universe takes back another life: the Sunken Cathedral.

Summer in the city: It's hot and tempers are boiling over. Children are getting cranky and grown-ups are getting distracted and selfish: "roll up the windows darn it!* You're letting all the air conditioning escape!"

Let's give a round of thanks and a box of popsicles to all those adults and teens who make summer programs for children run smoothly!
